The Spanish Football Federation have announced the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao will take place at the Vicente Calderon stadium in Madrid.
The venue for the May 25 showpiece has turned into a hot topic with both clubs’ preferred choice – the Santiago Bernabeu – ruled out after Real Madrid claimed they would be doing some renovation work at the time.
Barca then revealed their first choice was the Vicente Calderon, the home of Atletico, while Athletic indicated their preference for La Cartuja in Seville.
An agreement was finally reached on Tuesday, however, with an RFEF spokesman saying:
“The RFEF board announces that the final of the Cup will be on May 25 at Estadio Vicente Calderon.”
